Pilot OK after plane clips power line, crashes in North Pole

A 45-year-old woman escaped injury when her bright yellow plane flipped and crashed after clipping some power lines in North Pole.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that pilot Ruby Shorey told emergency crews she took off from the Lakloey area Saturday morning and was making her second pass when the plane lost power.

Shorey said she struck the lines while attempting to land on a road. The one-seat plane landed on its tail and was heavily damaged.

Shorey, however, was able to exit the plane without assistance.

The crash knocked out power and phone service in the area for about three hours.

An Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman says investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration arrived shortly after the crash.
