Chugiak overcame an early touchdown from East on Friday, rallying for a 19-6 Cook Inlet Conference flag football victory at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium. The Thunderbirds took a 6-0 lead on their first drive, but Chugiak's Holly Brehmer evened it at 6-6 on a 20-yard touchdown run before the first quarter ended.
Chugiak's Sam Perez broke the tie in the third quarter, returning an interception 25 yards for a score, after which Carly Metcalf scored an extra point to put the Mustangs up 13-6. Ashleigh Sitz sealed the win with a 2-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Chugiak improved to 8-4, and East fell to 6-7.
