Dimond tops 24-team volleyball tournament

Led by tournament MVP Leah Swiss, Dimond claimed the championship of the Dimond-Service volleyball tournament, which attracted 24 teams to Anchorage for two days of action at Dimond and Service.

Swiss chalked up 11 kills and nine digs to help Dimond defeat Chugiak 25-16, 25-16 in the gold-bracket championship match Saturday at Service.

Sierra Afoa added seven kills and Aaliyah Lewis chipped in 16 digs for the Lynx. For Chugiak, Rachel Gregg and Kirsten Veech each had three kills, with Gregg getting nine digs and Veech adding six.

The silver-bracket title went to Soldotna, which downed Mt. Edgecumbe 25-16, 25-16 in the title match.
