In a night race that started in below-zero temperatures, skiers from UAF dominated the first college race of the nordic ski season Friday at a meet at Birch Hill in Fairbanks.
Logan Hanneman and Rebecca Konieczny led the Nanooks with individual victories in the classic prologue of the annual Alaska Nordic Cup, which started in minus-4 temperatures.
Hanneman won the 3-kilometer men's race by 15 seconds over UAA's Lasse Moelgaard-Nielsen and Konieczny edged teammate Marit Rjabov by 1.5 seconds to win the women's 2-K.
The UAF women registered a perfect score of 15 to help the Nanooks to a 28-14 overall lead over UAA going into Saturday's racing at Birch Hill.
