Dog show highlights a busy weekend for pets

Looks like a busy weekend for dog lovers in the area, including one of my favorites, the Alaska and Kenai Kennel Clubs dog show Saturday and Sunday at the Egan Center.

If you've never been to a dog show, it's worth checking out. Nowhere else in town will you find representatives of nearly 100 AKC breeds all in one place and groomed to perfection.

Here's what's going on:

Mardi Gras Bow-Wow

Support Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue's medical fund by attending this fundraiser. Enjoy a New Orleans buffet, music, magic with Don Russell, auction and a no-host bar. 6 p.m.-midnight Saturday, March 2, Lions Club in Eagle River. This is an event for humans to help the dogs. $50 per person. Pick up tickets at TLC Kennels and Ruff House in Wasilla or It's a Dog's Life in Eagle River. Tickets are also available at the door.

Dog Show

The Alaska and Kenai Kennel Clubs will hold dog show competitions January 26-27. Nearly one hundred breeds of purebred dogs will be competing. Breed judging will start at 9 am followed by Group and then Best-In-Show judging. Dog crating areas are scattered around the rings. ..., 9 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, January 26-27, William A. Hogs & Dogs

Bring your friends and friendly dog to House of Harley-Davidson and Buell on Saturday, January 26th, from noon to 4 p.m We'll have a dog fashion show. The categories are: Best Biker Dog, Most Unique, and Best Owner/Dog Duo! There will also be a silly trick contest. Great Prizes for all the competitions and door prizes! ...
