Letter: Not all potholes created equal

Very soon municipal road crews will be afield repairing winter's potholes. And yet, during the coming warmer months, paving companies will be busy creating potholes.

I refer to the poorly engineered manholes that dot our city and evoke jaw-rattling 2-inch-deep tire traps around town, such as can be found in front of the barbecue restaurant on 15th Avenue just west of Gambell or in front of Cafe Del Mundo on Benson Boulevard. Surely a thoughtful designer could engineer some incremental space rings to lift the manhole covers closer to being flush with the surrounding road surface.
