McDowell Group hires McClung to serve as senior health economist

McDowell Group is pleased to announce it has hired Peter McClung to serve as the firm's Senior Health Economist.

"Peter brings to McDowell Group 10 years of high-level health care-related economic analysis experience. Peter's skill set is unique in Alaska and represents an important enhancement in McDowell Group's capacity to meet the needs of our clients in the health care sector," said McDowell Group Principal Jim Calvin.

McClung will be based in the firm's Anchorage office, but will serve clients throughout the state.

Prior to joining McDowell Group, McClung served as a Health Economist for the British Columbia Medical Association. In that capacity, he analyzed the BC health system to advise and support funding allocations which would benefit both patients and providers.

"I am very excited about the opportunities in Alaska to apply my professional skills and interests." McClung said. "For a variety of reasons, health care is a rapidly evolving sector in Alaska and elsewhere. The financial challenges are similar across North America, but the solutions will be unique in every situation. Understanding the economic implications of the Affordable Care Act, Alaska's aging population, and other factors are a critical part of mapping out the future of health care in Alaska."

Originally from Canada, McClung earned a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor's in Economics from the University of Manitoba.

McDowell Group has a full-time staff of 15 employees and offices in Anchorage, Juneau and Bellingham. The firm has provided research and consulting services to a wide array of government entities, private companies and non-profit organizations since 1972.
