CIRI announces Midtown office building construction

An Alaska Native regional corporation says it will build an office tower on Midtown Anchorage property formerly occupied by a movie theater.

Cook Inlet Region Inc. says it will build the first tower in what will become the Fireweed Business Center at Fireweed Lane and the Seward Highway.

CIRI President Sophie Minich says in an announcement that the Anchorage commercial real estate market is tight and the project will meet demand.

The company is working with RIM Architects and Davis Constructors & Engineers, Inc. to build a 110,000-square-foot, eight-story building.

Minich says site preparation began this week and construction will begin next spring. The structure is scheduled to be completed in winter 2014.

A subsidiary, CIRI Land Development Co., is working with potential tenants to collect suggestions for the design
