Rebuttal to Mr. Steiner's letter, "Loose gun laws aren't patriotic (Oct. 10)."
Fact: Every day, 550 rapes, 1,100 murders and 5,200 other violent crimes are prevented just by showing a handgun. In less than 0.9 percent is the gun actually fired.
Fact: Two-thirds of deaths from gunfire are criminals being shot by criminals.
Fact: More than 22,000 gun laws at city, county, state and federal level should make us free of gun-related crime.
Fact: Most gun control laws have been written since 1968, and the murder rate continues to increase. I fail to see Mr. Steiner's relationship about gun control and patriotism.
Get educated about the facts, go to www.guncite.com and look for "Gun Facts Version 2.0" and read it and decide for yourselves. Further, look at the whole website. It's packed with facts about guns.
We should not let emotions rule us by cherry- picking highlights regarding guns. Just facts.
