Police say the 38-year-old man who was involved in a bar-break fight downtown in the early morning last Saturday has died from his injuries.
Adrian D. Augustine was involved in the fight in the parking lot behind the Gaslight Lounge on Fourth Avenue at 3:15 a.m., according to an email from police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.
Augustine was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and his wife was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries but was released later that day, Castro said.
Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide. It's the 16th of the year, according to police.
Castro said police aren't releasing any information about whether a weapon was involved in the assault.
She said other victims of the assault were hospitalized but were released the same day.
John Pattee, owner of the Gaslight Lounge, originally told the Daily News that police had reviewed his surveillance video with his manager.
Pattee said the video showed two couples walking west through an alley just after bar-closing time when three white SUVs parked behind the Gaslight Lounge.
He said his manager said the fight started after Augustine's wife yelled at the group.
During the fight, Augustine's wife was knocked to the ground, only to get back up and continue to yell at the group, which started a round of more intense fighting, Pattee said.
The group had already fled when police arrived.
Police did not confirm or deny Pattee's description of the events.
