Faamasino is lone CIC rusher to top 1,000 yards this season

West running back Lui Faamasino became the Cook Inlet Conference's leading rusher and the only back in the league to surpass 1,000 yards this season when he turned in a 173-yard rushing performance in last weekend's large-school state football championship.

Faamasino was a key contributor in the Eagles' 28-16 state-title victory over Service. He finished with 1,148 yards and nine touchdowns on 201 carries, averaging 5.7 yards per carry over 11 games.

Going into the First National Bowl, Faamasino was a yard behind Chugiak's Gabe Mingledorff, who ran for 976 yards on 148 carries in nine games.

Service quarterback C. J. Toomer finished with 2,712 yards in 11 games, good enough to set an unofficial single-season state passing record. Toomer's top target was Armend Aliju, whose 45 catches led CIC receivers.

West's Leroy Elliott led the league in receiving yards, with 843.
