High school volleyball report for Wednesday, Oct. 30

South 3, Service 0

The South and Service volleyball teams helped raise $9,255 for breast cancer research Wednesday at South Side Pink Night, a Cook Inlet Conference volleyball match played in front of a big crowd at South High, where the Wolverines won 25-23, 25-22, 27-25.

Kayla Sims ran the offense for South, connecting for 30 assists. Holly Morehouse pumped out eight kills for the Wolverines, with Tatum Upchurch, Shelby Little and Caitlin Sweeney each adding five kills.

Tayleigh Talmadge led the Cougars with eight kills and 13 digs. Morgan Christy contributed eight kills and seven blocks and Alyssa Flynn struck for seven kills. Megan Christy and Cydney Clark each recorded 11 assists and Monique Mojica finished with 15 digs.

West 3, Bartlett 1

West needed four sets to take down Bartlett on Wednesday in a CIC volleyball match at West High, where the Eagles prevailed 25-17, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16 on Senior Night.

Seniors Rita Dexter, Ashlee Tua and Rebecca Jones all came up with big offensive efforts for the Eagles, Dexter racking 17 kills, Tua and Jones each hitting for 15. Senior Diana Lobontui led the defense with 11 digs, and junior Anne Vollertsen dished 37 assists.

Savanna Sahara's eight kills and four blocks paced Bartlett, with Kayla Panzarella distributing 16 assists and Autumn Plews blasting six kills.

Dimond 3, Eagle River 0

The Dimond volleyball team took care of business on Senior Night, sweeping Eagle River 25-8, 25-10, 25-11 in a CIC match at Dimond High on Wednesday.

Leah Swiss led the way for the Lynx, netting 11 kills and four digs. Taliyah Edwards and Dakayla Walters each bagged four kills.

Chugiak 3, East 1

Double-doubles from Rachel Topf and Rachel Gregg sparked Chugiak to a 25-13, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20 CIC volleyball victory over visiting East on Wednesday.

Topf was one three seniors to come up big on Senior Night for the Mustangs, accumulating 26 assists and 17 digs. Senior Natalie Stark turned in nine kills and senior Kirstin Veech added five kills and 11 digs. Gregg, a junior, flirted with a triple-double with 15 kills, 25 digs and seven blocks.

Sydney Smith led East with 16 kills, Morgan Hill tacked on 11 and Taria Page chipped in with nine.
