Police: Man critical after being hit by pickup in E. Anchorage

A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing an East Anchorage road Monday morning, police said.

About 9 a.m., a green Nissan pickup truck traveling northbound on Boniface Parkway near Camelot Drive struck Nicholi McCarlo, 50, who was walking across the road, Jennifer Castro, an Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman, said in an email. McCarlo was in the center lane of the road when he stepped into traffic, Castro said.

An ambulance took McCarlo to an Anchorage hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. The driver of the truck stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities, Castro said. No citations have been issued.

The crash, which remains under investigation, shut down traffic on Boniface for about 20 minutes.
