The Wasilla and Soldotna girls will meet Saturday for the unofficial Doc Larson's Roundball Classic championship after both teams posted victories Friday in the round-robin tournament.
Both teams are undefeated after two tournament games. The Soldotna girls took down Juneau 45-31, and the three-time defending state champion Warriors demolished Galena 66-27.
The teams play at 4:15 p.m. at Wasilla High.
Taking wins on the boys side Friday were East and Archbishop Spalding of Severn, Md. East rallied past Wasilla 55-47 and Archbishop Spalding handled Lathrop 79-41.
The Soldotna girls got a big boost from Katelynn Kerkvliet, who poured in 16 points to go with eight rebounds. Julie Litchfield's 12 rebounds led the team and she also contributed five assists and four steals. Haley Miller scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Kymberlee Kelly and Kaitlin Fagerstrom each scored 10 points for Juneau.
Wasilla displayed impressive depth in its win over Galena, getting points from 11 players and steals from 13. Leading the scoring were Cassidy Edwards (14 points), Shayla Johnson (12) and McKenna Dinkel (11), while Amanda Hutchins tallied 10 rebounds, seven of them on the offensive end.
The Warriors outscored Galena 36-8 in the second half.
In boys action, East used a 15-5 third quarter to rally from a eight-point deficit at the half. Eudy Gomez racked up 17 points and 10 rebounds and Desmond Johnson delivered 14 points and eight assists for the T-birds.
Wasilla was led by Alex Baham (16 points), Cameron Brown (11 points) and Cash McGregor (10 rebounds).
Four players scored in double figure for Archbishop Spalding, a group led by Gary Jefferson (23 points) and Jordan Grant (19). The Maryland team is the only undefeated boys team in the tournament.
Jaden Whiteside led Lathrop with 11 points.
