Hockey wins for West, Wasilla

West 4, Homer 3

Ilya Turchaninov scored two goals Thursday night to spark West to a 4-3 nonconference hockey victory over Homer at Ben Boeke Arena.

His first goal, coming while Homer was on the power play, sparked a three-goal seconds period for the Eagles, who trailed 1-0 after one period.

Turchaninov's second goal gave West a 4-1 lead early in the third period.

Homer answered with goals from Konstantin Reutov and Tommy Bowe, who scored 70 seconds apart midway throuigh the period to make it a one-goal game. Reutov also scored Homer's first period goal.

West, whose other goals came from Ryder Schwamm and Alex Bardsley, got

15 saves from goaltender Joe Chekan.

Homer's Markian Polushkin stopped 36 shots.

Wasilla 5, Eagle River 3

Cooper Hanson scored two goals and Blake Carricaburu and Tanner Schachle had two-point nights Thursday to propel Wasilla past Eagle River 5-3 in a nonconference hockey game at the McDonald Center.

Carricaburu scored a goal and an assist and Schachle had two assists for the Warriors, who led 3-1 after one period.

Garrett Conroy and Troy Verplancke scored Wasilla's other goals, and goaltender Wyatt Monear stopped 20 shots.

Eagle River got one goal in each period. Freshman Anthony Fan scored twice, Kory Cain scored once and Kyle Johnson assisted on all three goals for the Wolves, who got 25 saves from goalie Justin Lopez.
