APD: Man charged with terroristic threatening after standoff

UPDATE 9:50 AM THURSDAY

Police arrested David Chau, 44, after a two-hour standoff at a home in the Eastridge subdivision in East Anchorage on Wednesday evening, police said.

Chau faces a terroristic threatening charge in the second-degree, police said.

He was taken to Anchorage Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, said Jennifer Castro, police spokeswoman.

UPDATE 8:40 PM WEDNESDAY: No explosives were found in the Eastridge residence after a search, Anchorage police said via social media.

A man engaged in a two-hour standoff with police at a home in Airport Heights on Wednesday evening, police said.

Just before 5 p.m., Anchorage police attempted to serve court papers to a man at the 1600 block of Eastridge Dr., a multiplex building, Anchorage police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, barricaded himself inside the residence. He "indicated he may have a bomb and is armed," Castro said in an email.

SWAT and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams were called to the scene.

At 7:18 p.m., police tweeted that the man had been safely taken into custody, and the residence was being checked for explosives.

Neighboring units in the building were evacuated during the standoff, Castro said.
