Letter: Begich ads wrong; Flint Hills is an outstanding company

I am 70 years old, was born in Fairbanks and for the past 10 years have worked for Flint Hills Resources, a Koch Industries affiliate. People ask why I don't retire. I don't because I am working for an outstanding company. Flint Hills respects their employees, encouraging and rewarding creativity and entrepreneurship. It is the most outstanding company I have worked for.

Current ads by Sen. Mark Begich's campaign are misleading. He should be ashamed to endorse them. Our employees have worked hard to run an efficient refinery. Environmental conditions and, secondarily, economic conditions forced the refinery closure.

Flint Hills has opportunities for our employees at other locations. Over half of our employees impacted by layoffs are looking in the Lower 48 states. Many are lifelong Alaskans respecting Flint Hills so much they are willing to move, which is counter to the Begich ads.

Flint Hills has taken care of spills they did not cause and supported good causes around Alaska. Thank you, Flint Hills. You do not deserve the negative implications of the Begich ads.
