Alcohol abuse series cited by press club

A Daily News project examining the social and health consequences of alcohol abuse in Alaska won the Alaska Press Club's Public Service Award at the journalism organization's annual contest Saturday.

Reporter Kyle Hopkins and photojournalist Marc Lester's "State of Intoxication: Alaska and Alcohol" is a yearlong effort to explore the problems caused by alcohol abuse in Alaska and the possible solutions.

The work is funded by the Recover Alaska Media Project fund at the Alaska Community Foundation. More information on the project can be found at adn.com/alcohol.

The Daily News won 16 awards total in the Alaska Press Club contest, which recognized the best journalism produced in Alaska in 2013.
