Palmer woman cited for texting while driving

Troopers cited a 62-year-old Palmer woman for texting while driving Thursday morning, said a dispatch posted online.

Around 8:50 a.m. troopers saw Merry Duame driving a Chevy truck and using a cellphone. Investigation revealed she was reading a text message, troopers said.

Duame was given a misdemeanor citation and released with promise to appear in court.

State law has explicitly banned "reading or typing a text message" while driving since 2012.
