Magnitude 5.8 quake rocks Southeast Alaska

An early morning earthquake rocked Southeast Alaska Wednesday, according to reports from the Alaska Earthquake information center. The 5.8 magnitude quake was centered at a remote area of Glacier Bay National Park, about 49 miles west-southwest of Haines, 54 miles northwest of Gustavus and 96 miles west-northwest of Juneau. Juneau public radio station KTOO said there were no immediate reports of damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said that quake was felt across Southeast Alaska -- with reports from Juneau, Douglas, Haines, Hoonah and Skagway -- as well as by residents in Whitehorse, in Canada's Yukon Territory.
