Glenn Highway mostly reopened after rollover fatality

A single vehicle rollover accident on the Glenn Highway Wednesday morning has left one dead, one in critical condition and two others with non-life threatening injuries, according to Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Dani Myren.

According to APD, police were notified of the accident near the Eklutna Flats in Southcentral Alaska at about 11:27 a.m.

Police temporarily shut down both north and southbound lanes to make room for a medevac helicopter to land and take the critically injured to an Anchorage hospital.

By 1:22 p.m., only one lane of the northbound lanes was still closed. Myren was unsure of how long it would be closed, adding that emergency responders would need "wiggle room" for a tow truck to remove the black pickup truck in which the victims had been traveling.

Myren added that the cause of the rollover is still under investigation and the names of those involved won't be released until the next of kin have been notified.
