Parnell missed a chance

Medicaid Expansion would've created far more jobs and not cost Alaska billions like Parnell's oil tax cuts. Alaska would've had healthier people too.

A star on your flag

On July 9, I developed a serious condition and felt I needed some qualified health care. I Googled hospitals in Anchorage and Alaska Regional came up. We found the hospital easily and my wife dropped me off at the Emergency Room entrance. The receptionist, after I told her of my symptoms, didn't bat an eye but whisked me right into an empty room, where I was immediately welcomed by an ER nurse. In no time at all, my condition had been diagnosed, meds delivered and a bad situation was resolved by expert and caring professionals.

What surprised me was that I had to ask if anyone wanted or needed my insurance cards. I have been in ERs before and that is the first time that that has ever happened. Usually, that is the first thing requested of the patient. My congratulations to the hospital and its wonderful, caring staff in the ER. You guys and gals are the best and certainly must be one of the stars in your beautiful state flag. Thanks again.

Comment system discriminates

Some of your readers, like myself, do not like Facebook. If we have to log into social media to post comments, shouldn't we be allowed to choose which social media? And what about those who don't do social media at all? Will they have no comment posting privileges? This sounds discriminatory.

Why should we have to tacitly endorse Facebook and their business in order to participate in posting comments to this paper's articles? I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this sounds wrong.

If Miller is elected, he'll need a legal fund

Great Joe Miller history lesson from letter writer Martin Becker of Fairbanks. I am glad someone else remembers the arrogance, paranoia and tendency to be a bully that Joe has demonstrated in the past.

So what if Joe is elected? How would he do in Washington for Alaskans? So far, everything I have seen him do is either saving his own skin or promoting it. If Joe is elected, what do you think he will try to do for us? You know, if he starts wielding his sharp little legal tools around The Hill, lest he forget there are some Harvard boys and girls already there. Do you think they'll let Yale win or outdo him?

If Joe gets elected, be sure he starts a legal defense fund right away; that will keep him from weaseling out of legal scrapes. If he gets elected and eventually gets kicked off The Hill, he can move onto his Kansas farm and build a new political career.
