Lobendahn, defense lead Golden Bears to big win over Lathrop

Fueled by Vincent Lobendahn's big running game and a feisty defense, the Bartlett Golden Bears opened the football season Saturday night with a dominating 47-14 nonconference win over Lathrop in Fairbanks.

Lobendahn rushed for 163 and five touchdowns on 21 carries. He racked up 123 yards and four touchdowns in the first half to help Bartlett cruise to a 34-7 lead at intermission.

Lathrop quarterback Glenn Maiden threw for 300 yards, completing 22 of 47 passes, but he had a rough night. The Golden Bears sacked him eight times and intercepted him five times.

Maiden's only touchdown pass came with 32 seconds left in the first quarter, when he threw a 45-yard strike to twin brother Garrius. Bartlett answered immediately with Deionte Love's 83-yard kickoff return.

Jordan Pace's 11-yard scoring run for Bartlett were the only points scored in the third quarter.
