Victims of Parks Highway collision identified

Dontaveon Green and Patricia Williams were returning to Fairbanks from the Alaska State Fair Monday when they were killed in a head-on collision on the Parks Highway, a relative said.

Green, 33, and Williams, 23, were driving north on the Parks Highway in a 2000 Saturn SL when a 2003 Lincoln Navigator crossed into their lane and the two vehicles collided at Mile 152, Alaska State Troopers said.

The Navigator was driven by Wilton Florencio Villa, 27, of Anchorage. Villa and his passenger were transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center with serious injuries, troopers said.Villa remained in serious condition Tuesday, a hospital spokesman said. The condition of his passenger wasn't available.

The accident, reported at 5:45 p.m., took place a few miles north of the Byers Lake Campground. It closed the highway in both directions for several hours.

Green turned his life around "360 degrees" after serving time about five years ago, his sister said.

"He was very positive. He was a Christian man," said Teaudra Flenaugh, an Anchorage resident who had just returned home from a trip Monday when she heard about the accident. "He was always smiling, always happy."

Green was incarcerated for a 2008 incident in Fairbanks. He was accused of shooting at police officers and later convicted of felony third-degree assault, drug-related and misconduct involving weapons, according to a state courts database.

Flenaugh said her brother had turned into a "hard-working man" who didn't even want to listen to hip-hop or rap and recently got a job driving a fuel truck. He was in a relationship with Williams, whom he'd talked about marrying.

"He was a soldier for the Lord. He was a strong person," she said. "He went through a lot of stuff in his life and still stayed positive."
