Around the rinks -- notes on a Friday night

In hitting several fronts tonight, we note that UAF showed some nice bounce-back in beating Air Force, 4-3, with a pair of third-period goals in UAF's Brice Alaska Goal Rush tournament -- the Nanooks trailed 2-0 inside the first three minutes and trailed 3-1 deep into the second period before racking three straight goals.

Colton Parayko, the towering defenseman who is the reigning WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, forged a 3-3 tie with a laser in the third period and rookie Peter Krieger, who looked pretty good in UAA's season-opening Kendall Hockey Classic, bagged the winner inside the last three minutes. Helped that the Nanooks limited the Falcons to just 16 shots.

In other college stuff, UAA roared back with two late goals to tie Penn State, 3-3, at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush. Junior winger Casey Bailey of Anchorage had a goal for the Nittany Lions. Oh, and Maine and Wisconsin, who along with UAF were in the Kendall, both were bageled. Maine fell 3-0 to Union and has scored just three goals in three games. Wisconsin fell 2-0 to Northern Michigan and has scored just two goals in three games. Hint: You Seawolves fans would like to see Maine and Wisconsin do well this season -- UAA beat both -- because that would boost the Seawolves' power ranking.

Also in men's college player, Hunter Fejes of Anchorage scored Colorado College's only goal in a 3-1 loss to North Dakota.

In the AHL, former UAA center Matt Bailey scored his second goal of the season for the Norfolk Admirals. Former Aces defenseman John Ramage had an assist for Adirondack -- that's the old Abbotsford franchise -- but was also -2 on on the ice for the overtime goal in Lehigh Valley's 4-3 OT win. Former Aces goalie Joni Ortio made 27 saves for Adirondack.

In the ECHL, former Aces forward Jordan Kremyr is Bakersfield's captain.

Former UAA center Paul Crowder had one goal, one assist and a shootout goal from Fort Wayne in a 5-4 win over Indy. Former Aces defenseman James Martin also had one goal and one helper, though he was denied in the nine-round shootout that the Komets won 3-2.

Our man Kane Lafranchise, the former Ace and Seawolf, had an assist for Kalamazoo in a 6-2 loss at Elmira.
