Gustavus 3, Nikolaevsk 2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-15, 24-26, 15-12)
Gustavus won a back-and-forth battle with Nikolaevsk to win the Alaska Mixed 6 volleyball tournament on Saturday night at Dimond High.
Gustavus won 15-12 in the final set to earn the win.
Nikolaevsk won the first set before Gustavus pushed the Warriors to the brink of elimination with two straight. But the Kenai Peninsula team battled back for a 26-24 win in the fourth set to force the decider.
In other Class 2A play on Saturday, Unalakleet defeated Kenny Lake 3-1 (24-26, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 15-12) to claim fourth place and Koliganek defeated Dillingham 3-1 (25-12, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15) to win third.
Klawock 3, Craig 1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-14)
Klawock dominated Craig in an all-Southeast Alaska battle in the Class 2A volleyball finals at Dimond High on Saturday night.
The Southeast Conference champions defeated Craig 25-17 in the opener before dropping the second set. The Chieftians then rallied to win the final two sets and take the title.
The win was the third title for Klawock, which also won in 2009 and 2011.
In the third-place match, Unalakleet defeated Nunamiut 3-1 (25-16, 28-26, 22-25, 25-16)
In consolation round play, Golovin beat Akiachak 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-18) and Nondalton defeated Scammon Bay 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-21).
