Thursday's prep hockey round-up

Dimond 4, Lathrop 0

Dimond got goals from four different players in its 4-0 nonconference hockey win over Lathrop on Thursday in Fairbanks.

Cody Dearing's short-handed goal with eight seconds left in the first period gave the Lynx a 1-0 lead. Dimond struck again late in the second, getting a power-play tally from Tanner Rath with 51 seconds to play to take a 2-0 lead into the third period.

Sean Gardeline added a third-period insurance goal for Dimond, scoring on the power play with 5:45 to go. Spencer Penman's late tally provided the final margin of victory.

Goalie Chris Gardeline made 20 saves to earn the shutout for the Lynx, who face North Pole on Friday and West Valley on Saturday.

South 2, Eagle River 1 (OT)

South's Bryson Schmitz scored with 56 seconds left in overtime to lift South to a 2-1 Cook Inlet Conference hockey win over Eagle River on Thursday at Ben Boeke. Zac Nelson and Ben Trujillo assisted on the winning goal, which allowed the Wolverines to salvage a season split with the Wolves.

Jeremy Swayman made 38 saves for South, which won despite getting outshot 39-18.

Eagle River led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Kyle Johnson off a Jesse Johnson assist.

South tied the game midway through the second period on a power play strike by Trujillo off a Daniel Ramsey assist.

Eagle River's Trent Burnham stopped 16 shots.

Service 4, Colony 1

Tyler Millar scored twice and Leo Karcz had a goal and two assists to power Service to a 4-1 nonconference hockey win over Colony on Thursday at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.

Brad Kuper also scored a goal and had an assist for the Cougars, who got 11 saves from Ronan Klancher.

Joey Diltz stopped 17 shots for the Knights, whose lone goal was scored by Jacob Link with 1:18 left in the third period.

West Valley 8, West 1

West Valley got a pair of goals from Zack Savereide to lift the Wolfpack to an 8-1 nonconference hockey win over West on Thursday night in Fairbanks.
