Mat-Su seeks Assembly candidates for seat vacated by new legislator

PALMER -- The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is seeking candidates to fill the Assembly seat left vacant by Jim Colver, who was elected to the Alaska Legislature.

Colver represented District 6, which includes north Palmer and Wasilla areas such as Hatcher Pass, Wasilla-Fishhook and Schrock roads, and Memory Lake. He was elected as a Republican to serve in the House. A new session gets underway this month in Juneau.

To be considered for the position, an applicant needs to live within the district -- check the borough's district map -- as well as be a qualified borough voter, meeting local and state requirements and have been a borough resident for at least a year, according to Borough Clerk Lonnie McKechnie.

The borough clerk is accepting applications during business hours through Jan. 28. Application packets are available online or by calling the Borough Clerk's Office at 907-861-8683.
