Shutouts aplenty in Friday high school hockey action

Dimond 7, North Pole 2

Dimond scored a trio of first-period goals in a span of 36 seconds to jump-start a 7-2 nonconference hockey win over North Pole on Friday at the Polar Ice Arena in Fairbanks.

Augie Stevens broke a scoreless tie when he converted a Halen Herndon assist with 1:49 left in the first, and Herndon got a goal of his own when he knocked a shot off a Patriots' defender with 1:31 left before the first intermission. Kyler Mack made it 3-0 when he put the Lynx up 3-0 with 1:13 to go. North Pole cut the lead to 3-1 before the break with a score one minute after Mack's tally.

Sean Gardeline, Austin Reed and Chance Peters scored second-period goals for Dimond, which led 6-2 heading into the third.

Gardeline posted his second goal in the third period, which was briefly delayed after a Peters slap shot broke a pane of plexiglass.

Chugiak 8, Kenai 0

Chugiak got goals from eight players in an 8-0 nonconference hockey win over Kenai on Friday at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Zach Krajnik, Andrew Beckett, Chase Bear, Nicholas Perez, Daniel Casey, Rhys Cottle, Sam Hanson and John Hammer found the net for the Mustangs.

West 7, Lathrop 0

West earned a nonconference hockey win with a 7-0 defeat of Lathrop on Friday at the Big Dipper ice arena in Fairbanks.

Service 3, Homer 0

Tyler Millar scored two goals for Service, which also got a Matt Stone strike in its 3-0 nonconference win over Homer on Friday night at Ben Boeke.

Ronan Klancher stopped 12 shots to get the shutout for Service, while Markian Polushkin turned back 41 shots for the Mariners.

GIRLS

Fairbanks (dark) 9, South-Bartlett 0

The Fairbanks Arctic Bears (dark) scored four times in the first period and never slowed down en route to a 9-0 girls hockey win over South-Bartlett on Friday in Fairbanks.

Helenka Brice and Mackenzie Sylvester each scored a pair of goals for the Arctic Bears, who outshot South-Bartlett 30-1.

Fairbanks (white) 9, Chugiak-Eagle River 0

The Fairbanks Arctic Bears (white) team duplicated the effort of their dark-jerseyed counterparts, posting a 9-0 girls hockey win over Chugiak-Eagle River on Friday in Fairbanks.

Arika Mercer made 26 saves for Chugiak-Eagle River, which along with South-Bartlett is playing three games this weekend against the two Fairbanks teams.
