APD: 4 idling vehicles stolen, with 3 recovered, in Anchorage Tuesday morning

Three vehicles had been recovered and one suspect apprehended after four idling vehicles across Anchorage were stolen in the space of two hours Tuesday morning, Anchorage police said.

Out of the four stolen vehicles, the only one to remain missing shortly before noon Tuesday was a black Toyota Tacoma truck with the license plate EWH463. It was taken from the 6000 block of Staedem Drive in downtown Anchorage at 7 a.m.

Around the same time, just over a mile away, a silver 2001 Plymouth Voyager was also stolen. Anchorage police said at 11:30 a.m. that the vehicle had been recovered, though no suspect had been identified.

Thirty minutes after the first two vehicles were taken, a silver Kia Forte was also allegedly stolen from the 100 block of Matthew Paul Way in East Anchorage. Police said the car has been recovered, but as of late Tuesday morning no arrest had been made.

At 8:30 a.m., police said the fourth vehicle, a burgundy Ford F-150 truck, was stolen from a South Anchorage home at the 100 block of East 68th Avenue. That vehicle was recovered a short time later and a suspect was apprehended, police said in a later release.

Police spokesperson Jennifer Castro said the rash of stolen vehicles do not appear to be connected.

It is against municipal code to leave a key in the ignition of a vehicle parked on a public street.

Anyone with information on the stolen vehicles is being asked to call police at 907-786-8900.
