Beringtons go 1-2 in Northern Lights 300

Kristy Berington nipped her twin Anna at the finish line to win the Northern Lights 300 sled dog race on Sunday in Big Lake.

Kristy Berington, of Kasilof, crossed the finish line two minutes ahead of Anna, who lives in Knik. The annual 300-mile race ran from Big Lake to Finger Lake and back.

Charlie Bejna was third, followed by Darrin Lee in fourth and Jodi Bailey in fifth.

The race, which is a qualifier for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest, is run by Iditarod champion Martin Buser out of his Happy Trails Kennel in Big Lake. This year's event saw 32 teams leaving the starting line on Friday.
