Boys hoops: Wins for West, East, Chugiak

A huge third quarter allowed West to break open a close game and coast to a 70-46 victory over Service in a Cook Inlet Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night at Service.

The Eagles led by two points at the half, 26-24, but dominated the third quarter to take a 50-37 lead.

Devante Doutrive piled up 19 points and 10 rebounds and Da'Zhon Wyche poured in 22 points and handed out five assists to lead West. Wyche scored nine points in the third quarter to help the Eagles outscore Service 24-13.

Brandon Huffman added 10 points and eight rebounds and DJ Harrison grabbed nine rebounds for West.

Nathan Fromm tossed in 16 points, Eben Upton added 11 and Pindo Drammeh, who got into early foul trouble, scored eight for the Cougars.

Chugiak 47, Eagle River 42

Derryk Snell's 14 points led a balance scoring attack that helped Chugiak stop Eagle River 47-42 in a Tuesday night CIC game at Chugiak.

Hunter Harr and Zach Philbrick each supplied 11 points for the Mustangs.

Eric Anderson's nine points topped Eagle River.

East 55, Dimond 47

Desmond Johnson's 18 points and seven rebounds sparked East's 55-47 CIC win over Dimond on Tuesday.

Johnson hit 10 of 12 free throws for the T-birds, who were 14 of 19 from the line. Marquis White netted 14 points and Moses Miller dropped in 13 for East.

Muhamad Cole had a team-high 15 points for host Dimond, which was 8 of 16 from the foul line.

East outscored Dimond 12-5 in the fourth quarter to expand a one-point lead.
