Seawolves gymnasts sweep weekly awards

UAA junior M'rcy Matsunami and freshman Emily Ramberg became the first gymnasts in program history to sweep the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's weekly awards, which were announced Monday.

Matsunami was voted MPSF Gymnast of the Week after she posted a score of 38.900 in the all-around competition during UAA's victory at Seattle Pacific on Friday. The score was the fourth-best in UAA history. Matsunami won the uneven bars and tied for the highest score on the vault while leading the team to its first dual meet win against SPU in 26 tries.

Ramberg won both the Newcomer of the Week and Specialist of the Week awards. The Minnesota native posted a 9.825 on the beam, the fourth-best score in program history, while helping the team to a program record-tying 48.557 on the apparatus. She also scored 9.525 on the vault.

UAA, which is 3-3 this season, returns to the mats at the Harley Davidson Invitational in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Feb. 13 and Feb. 15 for a tri-meet against Bowling Green and Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Illinois.
