Anchorage police arrest 2 men after woman robbed at gunpoint outside mall

Anchorage police say they arrested two men Thursday in connection with a robbery in the Dimond Center mall parking lot.

A 30-year-old woman told police she was sitting in her car outside Best Buy around 10:30 a.m. Thursday when a man holding a gun approached. He demanded her purse and cellphone. The woman gave him both and he fled in a sedan with a second man, according to a news release from the Anchorage Police Department.

The woman gave police a detailed description of the man who she said robbed her. About five minutes later, police found the sedan carrying two men nearly 5 miles north, at Gambell Street and 15th Avenue in Fairview. Inside the car, police found the woman's cellphone but not her purse, the release said.

Police identified the men as 21-year-old Robert Potts and 19-year-old Johnny Degrate. Both were arrested, charged with first-degree robbery and taken to the Anchorage Correctional Complex. Bail has been set at $5,000 for each, along with a third-party custodian requirement.

Jennifer Castro, APD communications director, said Thursday police were not specifying Potts' and Degrate's specific involvement in the robbery while investigation continues.
