Troopers: Anchorage woman arrested trying to smuggle heroin, meth into Goose Creek prison

An Anchorage woman was arrested and jailed Wednesday evening during an attempt to smuggle heroin and meth into the Goose Creek Correctional Facility, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers reported in an online dispatch that 25-year-old Gwendoline Maka was on her way to visit an inmate at the Point MacKenzie prison when she was found in possession of 26.32 grams of heroin and 8 grams of methamphetamine at about 6:44 p.m. Wednesday.

The drugs were discovered in her car, trooper spokesperson Megan Peters wrote in an email, after an officer had obtained a warrant to search it.

Maka was charged with first-, second- and third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, promoting contraband, and driving with a suspending or revoked license troopers said, and taken to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where she was held on $25,000 bail.

Maka is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.

Peters could not release the name of the person Maka was visiting, as no charges have been filed against that person.

Troopers said the arrest, made by the Mat-Su Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit and the Anchorage Special Crimes Investigation Unit, came after an investigation into a drug smuggling ring at Goose Creek, and an investigation continues.
