Baby dies after snowmachine ride in mother's parka

A 4-month-old boy was taken off life support at an Anchorage hospital Tuesday, several days after the child stopped breathing during a snowmachine trip between Western Alaska villages, Alaska State Troopers said.

The baby was riding in his mother's parka during a snowmachine trip from Golovin to White Mountain on the Seward Peninsula, troopers reported in an online dispatch. When the mother and child arrived at White Mountain, the child wasn't breathing.

The infant was flown Saturday from White Mountain to Anchorage, where he remained on life support until Tuesday, troopers wrote.

Spokeswoman Megan Peters said the case is still open as troopers await the autopsy report from the State Medical Examiner's Office, but there is no evidence of foul play.
