Bjornsen helps U.S. men to 11th place finish at world championships

Anchorage's Erik Bjornsen helped the United States to an 11th-place showing Friday at the Nordic World Championships in Falun, Sweden.

Bjornsen, one of four Alaska Pacific University skiers competing at the world championships, skied the opening leg of the 4x10-kilometer mixed-technique relay.

He put the Americans in 10th place, skiing the classic course in 28 minutes, 8.9 seconds.

Noah Hoffman lifted the team into ninth place in the second leg, but the Americans slipped to 12th on Kyle Bratrud's freestyle leg.

Simi Hamilton turned in the eighth-fastest anchor leg to boost the United States to 11th place overall.

Norway captured the gold medal.
