Anders' 4 All-Region honors leads UAA's big haul

Spearheaded by junior Karolin Anders' four awards, 19 UAA track and field indoor athletes Monday earned All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Anders at last month's Great Northwest Athletic Conference meet in Idaho won the pentathlon and long jump, finished second in the triple jump and tied for third in the high jump.

Junior Rosie Smith bagged three All-Region honors (60-meter hurdles, pentathlon, distance medley relay).

Earning two awards each among Seawolves women were Jamie Ashcroft (60 meters, 200 meters) and Jessica Pahkala (800 meters, distance medley relay).

Cody Thomas, who won the GNAC heptathlon, was honored in that discipline and in high jump, and Henry Cheseto, who won the 3,000 and 5,000, took home two honors. Also honored twice was Adam Commandeur (400, 4x400).

UAA's other All-Region selections were Dylan Anthony (5,000), Elliott Bauer (4x400), Joe Day (400), Tevin Gladden (triple jump), Darrion Gray (4x400) Nathan Kipchumba (800), Liam Lindsay (4x400) Dominik Notz (5,000), Alexia Blalock (triple jump), Beatrice Decker (distance medley relay) Amy Johnston (5,000) and Haleigh Lloyd (distance medley relay).

The Seawolves men won the conference meet and the women finished second.

All-Region honors went to athletes who finished in the top five in individual events at region meets and in the top three in relays at region meets.

UAA next competes March 13-14 in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
