UAA's fast Frenchman earns All-American honors at NCAA ski meet

UAA skier Clement Molliet, a freshman from France, earned All-American recognition by finishing sixth Friday in the men's 20-kilometer classic race at the NCAA cross-country skiing championships in Lake Placid, New York

Molliet completed the race in 56 minutes, 38.2 seconds. Racers in the top 10 places earned All-American status. Anchorage's Silas Talbot, a senior at Dartmouth University, finished 12th in 57:15, while UAF's Logan Hanneman, a senior from Fairbanks, placed 20th. Northern Michigan's Fredrik Schwencke won the race in 56:12.3.

Stephanie Kirk, a freshman at the University of Vermont, was the top Alaskan in the women's 15-K classic race, crossing the line in 50:42.8 to finish 21st. UAA's Kathrin Schratt was 23rd and the Seawolves' Mackenzie Kanady placed 25th. New Mexico's Emilie Cedervaern won in 47:40.3.

The championships conclude Saturday with the final day of alpine skiing competition.
