UAA's Mullings, Thompson garner all-region hoops honors

UAA basketball players Megan Mullings and Travis Thompson have earned all-region honors.

Mullings, a junior for the top-ranked UAA women, was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-West Region First Team. Thompson, a senior for the UAA men, was a second-team selection.

Mullings led UAA in points per game (13.7), field goal percentage (.605) and blocked shots per game (1.5) while helping UAA win both the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. The 6-1 post from Arizona was also named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year and a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.

Hawaii Pacific senior center Morganne Comstock was named the West Region Player of the Year.

Thompson, a 6-1 senior guard for the UAA men, was fourth in the GNAC in scoring at 16.8 points per game. He shot 43 percent from the 3-point line and scored at least 20 points 11 times this season.

The Dimond High grad finished his career at UAA as the school's No. 2 all-time leading scorer with 1,667 points, good enough for 12th on the GNAC career scoring list. Thompson, a first-team All-GNAC selection, is the UAA and GNAC career leader in made 3-pointers with 302 during four seasons with the Seawolves. UAA finished 16-13 and lost in the GNAC tournament.

Azusa Pacific senior guard Troy Leaf was the West Region men's basketball Player of the Year.

The all-region teams were selected by a vote of Division II sports information directors.
