Teen shot in shoulder outside East Anchorage party

A teenage girl was shot in the shoulder outside an East Anchorage house party early Sunday morning, police said.

Anchorage police got a call to the 4500 block of East Ninth Avenue about 2:18 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses said a group of men "showed up to the party and were denied access because they were not known to the host and appeared to be underage."

The group lingered outside the party, the release said.

"At least one of them produced a handgun and began firing multiple shots," according to the release.

An 18-year-old woman was hit in the shoulder by a single bullet.

"She was coming down the stairs when multiple shots were fired outside," said APD spokeswoman Anita Shell. "Something hit the wall behind her and she realized she'd been shot."

Friends took the injured woman to a local hospital. Police said her wounds didn't appear to be life-threatening.
