Nome man charged after early morning Anchorage home invasions, stabbing

An Anchorage police dog tracked down a man accused of entering three apartments early Thursday, stabbing one person and stealing a cell phone along with cash, according to police.

At 3:21 a.m., police received the first call about the man, later identified as 23-year-old Shane Mike of Nome. The caller, an unidentified man, said Mike was intoxicated and entered his apartment in East Anchorage, on the 6100 block of 12th Avenue. Mike threatened the man with a letter opener, according to an Anchorage Police Department statement.

"The intruder made the victim light a cigarette for him, then sat down while the victim locked himself in a bedroom and called police," police said.

At 3:46 a.m., a woman called police from an apartment around the corner on the 5800 block of DeBarr Road. The woman said an intoxicated man, whom she did not know, broke into her apartment. He shouted about the residents having stolen money from him and got into a fight with a 25-year-old man inside the apartment. He stabbed the man in the back and then left with a resident's cell phone and a small amount of cash, police said.

More than a dozen officers responded, according to police. The 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a punctured lung.

Around 3:54 a.m., police received another call from a man who said an unknown man had just entered and exited his apartment on the 1100 block of Norman Street. He thought the man used the bathroom and left, police said.

Police and K-9 unit "Aerie" tracked down Mike about 100 yards from the apartment on DeBarr Road. The dog was "deployed" when Mike would not comply with officer orders, police said.

Mike was charged with first-degree assault, three counts of first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and third-degree theft. He was in custody Thursday afternoon in the Anchorage Correctional Complex.

At the time of his arrest, Mike was on felony probation for a 2014 burglary conviction. In three other cases that year, he was found guilty on charges including criminal trespassing, theft and disorderly conduct, according to court records.
