Forecasters warn of fire weather in Matanuska Valley Tuesday afternoon

Citing strong winds and low humidity, National Weather Service forecasters have issued a red flag warning for fire weather conditions in the Matanuska Valley Tuesday afternoon.

The warning, issued early Tuesday morning, takes effect at noon and lasts until 6 p.m.

Winds from 10 to 20 mph are forecast, with gusts up to 30 mph. Relative humidity levels, meanwhile, will dip as low as 25 to 30 percent, according to the warning.

Forecasters wrote that winds would build through the morning while humidity dropped, but that wind speeds would peak in the afternoon and early evening, while humidity levels would begin climbing again Tuesday evening.
