Name change announced for rocket launch complex on Kodiak

KODIAK — Alaska Aerospace Corp. officials have instituted a name change for the Kodiak Launch Complex.

Officials announced Tuesday the name of the Kodiak Island facility is now the Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaska.

Alaska Aerospace Corp. senior vice president Mark Greby tells the Kodiak Daily Mirror newspaper that the name change will be publicized Tuesday during the 31st Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Company officials say in a news release that the name change reflects the corporation's increasing capability "to meet customer requirements and its broader aerospace commitment to the Pacific region."

The board approved the name change Aug. 28, and it was to have gone into effect Jan. 1. A message seeking clarification of the naming timeline left with the corporation office in Anchorage Tuesday wasn't immediately returned.
