With the seven-game regular season behind them, baseball teams in the Cook Inlet Conference head into pool play this week, with everyone playing three games in a six-day span.
At stake are two berths in the state high school tournament.
Although all eight CIC teams will compete, only the top four seeds are in the running for the state tournament – No. 1 Chugiak (6-1 going into the playoffs), No. 2 South (6-1), No. 3 Dimond (4-3) and No. 4 Service (4-3). Those four teams make up the championship pool.
The bottom four seeds – No. 5 Bartlett (3-4), No. 6 Eagle River (3-4), No. 7 East (2-5) and No. 8 West (1-6) -- make up the consolation pool and will play three round-robin games apiece to wrap up their seasons.
The state tournament is June 4-6 at Mulcahy Stadium.
