9 Alaskans have cashed in at World Series of Poker

Nine Alaskans have won money -- "cashed,'' in the parlance of the game -- through 12 of 68 events at the 46th annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Seven of those Alaskans earned money at The Rio in the same event, a new No-Limit Hold 'em tournament called The Colossus, which drew more than 22,000 entrants to become the largest live poker field in history.

Prasad Dobbins of Anchorage, who finished 601st in The Colossus, has topped Alaska winners with his $4,474 for that result.

Also winning money in The Colossus were Patrick Ronan of Girdwood (1,465th, $2,125); Jeremy Hamey of Juneau (1,560th, $1,957); Charles Lawson of Anchorage (1,800th, $1,521); Jennifer Richie of Anchorage (1,980th, $1,398); Jana Kincaid of Fairbanks (1,988th, $1,286); and Franklin Peter of Palmer (2,095th, $1,185).

Second among Alaskans in prize money this year is Russell Gunter of Anchorage, who finished 79th in a No-Limit Hold 'em 6-Handed event to pocket $3,989.

Benjamin Wilkins of Anchorage finished 81st in an Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better event to earn $3,085.

The World Series of Poker opened May 27 and runs through mid-July.
