UAA men's hoops lands another guard

UAA men's basketball coach Rusty Osborne has bolstered his backcourt with the signing of 6-foot-1 Diante Mitchell, a guard who spent the last two seasons with Western Nebraska Community College and will have two seasons of eligibility with the Seawolves.

Mitchell, who as a Utah high schooler was second-team all-state in basketball and first-team all-state in football, last season averaged 15.2 points per game. He shot 51 percent from the floor, including 41 percent from beyond the arc, and sank 86 percent of his free throws.

He's Osborne's fifth recruit for the 2015-16 season, joining three other junior-college transfers and a true freshman.

"We anticipate Diante playing both the point guard and shooting guard position, further strengthening our backcourt for the next two years,'' Osborne said in a news release.

Mitchell last season also delivered a 3.86 grade-point average at Western Nebraska that marked the highest GPA among the school's men's athletes.
