No lead is safe in the Seward Halibut Tournament

The 138.2-pound flat fish Anchorage's Matt Lewallen caught June 2 led the Seward Halibut Tournament for eight days, but his lead spent the weekend under a withering assault and wasn't in the top three come Sunday night.

The new leader is Karl Paulsen of California, who Sunday landed a 234.4-pounder aboard Tim Berg's "Grand Slam.''

Paulsen leapfrogged Kevin Krueger of California, who Saturday landed a 222.2-pounder that surpassed the 152.0-pounder Jeff Southworth of Montana landed Friday. Also in the mix is Wyoming's Tim Stockman with his 221.2-pounder, which he caught Sunday and puts him in third place behind Krueger and Paulsen.

And there's plenty of time for more changes atop the leader \board – the tournament that offers a $5,000 first prize runs through the end of the month. Second place is worth $2,500 and third place earns $1,500.
