MEA: Outage leaves 2,000 Palmer-area residents without power

Update, 8:30 a.m.: MEA said around 7:45 p.m. that power had been restored to all customers experiencing outages. Anyone still without power is asked to call 907-746-7697.

Update, 5:15 p.m.: MEA reported that power was restored to one out of the two feeders that were out. Approximately 900 members remained without power and crews continued to investigate the cause.

Original story: About 2,000 households in the Palmer area lost power around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to electricity provider Matanuska Electric Association. The outage is at the Palmer cooperative's Lucas substation, not far from MEA headquarters. Crews were en route as of 3:30 p.m., according to MEA spokesperson Julie Estey.

Estey didn't yet know the cause of the outage, which is affecting residents in Palmer but also out Palmer-Fishhook and Soapstone roads east of the city.

There is also a small outage in Eagle River that was quickly restored Thursday afternoon, Estey said.
