Alaska State Trooper rear-ended by minivan on Glenn Highway

An Alaska State Troopers car was hit from behind by a minivan on the Glenn Highway, but no one was seriously injured, according to a troopers dispatch posted Tuesday.

Troopers Sgt. Benjamin Endres, 53, was driving west on the highway near Mile 179 around 3 p.m. on Friday. He was pulling someone over, with his lights flashing, when the minivan traveling directly behind him ran into his car, troopers said.

"The impact caused disabling damage to both vehicles," troopers said.

Four people occupied the van, and all three passengers were taken to Cross Road Medical Center in Glennallen to be checked for injuries. The driver -- 52-year-old Paul Kerstane of Alberta, Canada -- wasn't injured in the accident, the dispatch reported.

Sgt. Endres suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the medical center.

Everyone was wearing seatbelts, troopers said.

Both cars appeared to be total losses and troopers are investigating the crash.
